Game Engine: Unity

Anything But A Gun, also known as ABAG, is a game I helped create with Forward Slash Studios for my Workshop class. During UCF's End of Year Game Showcase, Anything But A Gun won the Best Visual Design award, beating out over 10 different games. The project was designed in Unity, and while I did a lot of various in-engine tasks, my biggest contribution was implementing sound effects.

In early prototypes and builds of the game, the sound design was extremely rudamentary with most actions being given a single sound effect, which led to a lot of repetitive noises being heard in game. When production really kicked into high gear, one of my tasks was to drastically improve on the sound effects. I did this in a few ways. For one, most actions that have cooresponding sound effects in game randomly pick from a few chosen sounds. This is done to prevent sounds from getting too stale. Many of the sound effects themselves were chosen by me from a large sound effects library pack purchased by the game's producer. However, I very often would take these sound effects and modify them using Audacity to better suit them for whatever I was using it for. For example, the blast chamber's sound effect uses multiple different sound effects (alarm noise, mechanical moving, explosion) layered on top of one another with some extra audio effects to muffle certain sounds.

I also helped polish various parts of the game both in and out of engine. Some of these extra tasks included coding in small animations, designing particle systems, facilitating playtesting, and keeping our game documentation up to date.
